"Everyone has a purpose, everyone has a place."

Laxton's paws were beginning to feel tired, he'd been walking for some time, having decided to start exploring the areas around where he'd been staying in Moss Rock Canyon.  He'd grown quite fond of the canyon, which had made him highly hesitant to leave it at all.  At the same time, he was a social wolf, he didn't like being alone in that canyon, so hopefully by going out and exploring he would meet other wolves.  His tail swished the ground softly as he walked and he noticed it was slowly beginning to get colder the further he went.

He had begun to feel very warm, fearing he might be losing control of his fire magic again, but with the cooler temperature he was beginning to feel relieved.  He had gotten better control of his powers with practice, which had been another benefit to the canyon with no one around.  But once in a while he still lost control, leading to a lot of water being evaporated and couple of rock slides along the side of the canyon.  As he walked he then began to see snow, lots of it.  It made him happy, somewhere nice and cold while he's so hot.  He ran forward until he was standing right on the border of where the snow started and the way behind him was still green forests.

He then noticed that just beyond that was a lake, which he went over to quickly, hoping it wasn't frozen.

A great hope has crossed the earth.
Beneath these chilly waters was quietness. A silence that eased the mind, not madden it. He glided over the lakebed as whiskers brushed through the sediment. The leviathan was on the hunt for something, and it doesn’t appear luck would be at his side today. With only rocks and covered bones, he began to believe that he had wiped the floor clean of any treasure. Heavy bubbles trailed him from a sigh of irritation. Before he started to head for the lake’s surface, a pleasant surprise caught his eyes. Mussels.

Sharp claws scraped the bivalves from the rock they clung onto. He’d take as much as he could—his maw filled to the brim with these mussels. Juryoku hurried to the top as tail thrashed and paws pulled their way up. Perhaps he was too thrilled about his find, having breached quite fast. The beast braced himself once form fell back into the water. He reemerged slowly this time, turning around as if looking for someone.

Where was that damn bird? She wasn’t circling above like usual which concerned him a bit. Juryoku tried calling out for her, only managing a squeal so to not drop his catch. There was nothing, not a clatter nor whistle. He floated here in the middle of the lake with worry climbing onto his shoulders; his mouth gradually becoming sore from what overloaded it.

A minute passed by before he decided to make his way to shore. That is when he spotted a distant figure seemingly coming toward this lake. He’d slip back underwater after taking note of this creature far away. Tail pushed him forward, heading in the direction where he last saw this figure. It wasn’t long until he was stalking the shoreline. Of course, with the water now being more shallow, the glowing blue algae upon him made the fellow quite apparent—crimson eyes close to peeking out of the water. He wanted to make sure either the coast was clear, or the being he saw approaching moments ago would be no threat to his catch.

A great hope has crossed my fear.

Slumber enraptured the inky fae. Her frame was curled into a compact ball and tucked within an alcove near the edge of an icy lake. All four of her monstrous wings wrapped around her, cacooning her into a ball of shadowy night that seemed to blur the line between reality and illusion. Not a single drop of color disturbed her fathomless darkness and yet, the steady rise and fall of her wings posed no threat, no foreboding sense of nothingness or rage.  If it wasn't for paws scraping along the edge of the lake and soft subsequent splashes, the midnight fae would have continued her slumber unnoticed... but as it was, unknown scents teased her nostrils and the estranged noises pulled at her subconscious.

Golden eyes, irridescent as the radiant sun blinked open only to be greeted by beams of sunlight that trickled through the feathers of her wings. Despite hoarding the opposing element, she couldn't help but adore the way it warmed her blood and enticed her consciousness to greet the day. The Devout, a childishly pure incantation of herself, forced her wings to move, to allow the sun to bathe her frame in its glory and she shuddered. Her nostrils flared and she could hear whomever lurked beyond her sandy alcove getting closer. A shudder traced the length of her spine and finally, she moved.

A wing, ambidextrous to the point of disturbance bent and plunged into the unstable ground, it's twin swiftly followed suit and then... her body, lifted and pulled through the air. Four wings acted as massive limbs, planting and propeling her out of the hidey holewhile keeping her torso suspended. The precise, swift movements carried an arachnid quality that was simultaneously enchanting and eerie. Dahlia yawned and her paws stretched in mid-air revealing the same irridescent gold color on the bottom of her paws. Her skull turned, twisting along with her faux limbs to catch sight of two canine-like creatures. One was seemingly built for aquatics while the other was far more land based. Curious... were they friends?

Slowly her wings bent and creaked, lowering her frame to the earth before folding into a ridge along her spine. "Hello, my name is Dahlia, who are you?" Soft and gentle, her voice was pure empathy given tone and physicality. The Devout was a beautiful creature, both gentle and kind... it was the other half of her persona that was not.

Era, Female Ermine

The male had wandered away from the frozen lake, and even from the forest but it wasnt to far away from the cold so he still felt at home. His ears flicked back and forth as he walked along the shoreline of the lake, it was nice to get away from the cold every so often, but then again it was silly for him to be so warm tho. Taking in a deep breath he began to lower his body temp slightly to where he wasnt as warm but he was still warm enough if he were to step into the water he would still make steam. Ice blue eyes drifted to the water as he smiled slightly. Walking closer to the water he lifted his paw and touched the surface of the water making steam roll up his leg as he stood there for a moment just looking down at the water. Era streched up over the top of his head and looked down at the water. Smiling she slide all the way down and dropped into the water.

The small white weasle laughed slightly as she swam around the water, it was refreshing for her, specially since she knew as soon as she got out of the water calix would be able to keep her warm. So she knew that she could swim and then instanly get warm and dried. Calix watched his familair swim in the water, slowly he lowered his front half into the water lapping up some the cooling water. As his body hit the ground even more steam rose up around him causing a slight mist to spread over the area around him slightly. Calix smiled some as he rose back up and took in a deep breath. It was so relaxing to be out by the lake with no one around, but that was instantly taken away from him as he heard the sounds of water splashing slightly. Ears rotated around his head as he looked around. Just down the shore he could see something moving along the shoreline.

He wasn't quite sure what it was but knowing Era she would make him go figure out what it was. Rarely did she allow him to walk away from socializing, sighing he looked down at Era who was now climbing out of the water and shaking the extra water off herself. She looked up at him with a smile as she crawled up his leg and curled herself up on his back. Calix smiled some as he slowly headed towards where the creature in the water was off to. Even tho he didnt want to socialize he wanted to at least know what was swimming around.

Paws would twitch, the caccoon of Earth around him would tremble slightly, alerting others that the earthen mound was not as solid as it seemed. Already out of place, it was covered in neither grass nor snow simply barren, disturbed soil. Within a pup would twitch and whimper, the product of yet another nightmare. It was the same as all the others, the shadows grew followed by snarls and yelps. The scent of blood hung heavy in the air, nearly choking the youth in his slumber. A heavy thud in his dream would startled the pup awake with a startled and frightened yelp- muffled by the soil that protected him. The soil trembled yet again, cracking to reveal sunlight as he breathed heavily. The sound of paws and voices outside had him crouching inside his protective shield, for a moment he is thought the hellhound that had murdered his family, his coven as well as far as he knew, had finally found him. Protected as he was, he could not get a scent on who was out there, only that there were multiple paw steps  and one voice that had spoken.

As his panic settled, the Earth around him naturally began to crumble, breaking away until it finally settled around him leaving the boy exposed to the bright sun and the wrath of any around him. He remained crouched, pink eyes darting around as nostrils flared, sucking in scents as fast as he could. Eyes would settle on the group that was slowly congregating not far away near the shore. An aquatic creature lingered in the water, a bat-spider like wolf folded her wings, a colorful lavender wolf approached, and finally a black and red wolf, the pale pup contrasted them all starkly. His pristine white coat marred by the earth he had slept on, nubs for horns sprouted behind his ears, but most unique to him were the feathers that at the moment remained bristled alone his hackles. He was afraid, and thus, he remained rooted to his spot.

"Everyone has a purpose, everyone has a place."

Laxton came to a stop at the side of the lake, dipping his head down to drink quite a bit of water, in fact, when he started to drink his whole mouth was just steaming in the air, and the water bubbled at his paws. If anyone got close enough, they would feel the immense heat just coming off him in waves. And it got even hotter when someone, seemingly from nowhere, approached him and spoke to him. "I, um, uh..." he stammered quite bashfully. This she-wolf was quite beautiful, and because of how his last pack was, he was extremely shy with them when they approached him first, normally he had to approach them. But before he could speak, suddenly a mound in the ground cracked open, and out came a pup. It didn't look older than five months. He looked to the she-wolf and dipped his head respectfully to her. "Pardon me m'lady. Hello, it is nice to meet you, I am Laxton," he said in greeting. His body temperature seemed to drop as he was willing himself to relax. He was guessing that this pup was probably her's.

He turned to the pup and nodded his head to him. "And hello to you as well," he said in a welcoming tone. He didn't want to seem like he was trespassing if this was their territory, he only wished to pass through. He turned back to the she-wolf. "I apologize if I'm trespassing in your territory. I am simply passing through, but I desperately needed a drink," he explains to her. And as he went to turn around he noticed a slight glow down in the water, but he decided against investigating. He also now notice another he-wolf approaching. He could feel his hackles instinctively rise. He didn't want a fight, he just wanted to pass through without an incident, but now he got a strange feeling that wasn't going to happen. When his hackles started to rise, so did the heat emanating from him. He quickly took a side step into the water, but where he stood the water just began to boil and steam away, unsuccessfully cooling him down as he had hoped it would.

Sonja's advice was not helping him in this instance unfortunately. It was too hard to calm down and breath with so many wolves coming out of nowhere. Had he wandered into a packs territory? That was also the last thing he wanted to do. What was he going to do?

A great hope has crossed the earth.
This rising heat... something was amiss. His whiskers reached for the shore, but they winced away at the spike of distress. The leviathan stopped with his head now fully emerging from the water. His heart dropped, and his core grew warmer as a cloud rushed out of flaring nostrils. What was going on? First, there was one. Now, there were more souls about. It appeared to be a gathering—crimson gaze crossed over each individual, though his eyes would lock onto the stranger that stood in the water. He was focused on what they were doing, watching the water beneath them boil and steam. Soon his brows furrowed, giving the black and red wolf a glare before submerging himself underwater. Creating a little cubbyhole for his mussels in the lake bed, Juryoku would leave them there and hope they remain while he investigates this scene upon the shore.

As he reemerged, a growl low enough to vibrate the water around him filled the air. Heavy steam trailed his breath as usual; his maw opening with bitterness littered in his words. “What are you cooking?” he snarled at the black male wolf who now seemed to be on the defensive side with their hackles up. Was this a setup of some sort? The fellow’s attention drifted to a pup meters away that looked afraid. It saddened him—it was almost a mirror image of him in his youth, after the attack. “And what is wrong, little one?” he called out to the pup to ensure there was nothing suspicious going on here. His stomach twisted, but he would give these strangers the benefit of the doubt. Surely, they were not those wretched souls he still remembers to this very day.

He’d hope not.

As he floated here near the shore, a part of his mind settled down once assessing these wolves further. His slight annoyance for the black and red wolf lingered, but it certainly wasn’t willing to hang around. “I haven’t seen any of you around this area before. Unless the snow has blinded me,” he said, looking at all three of the mature wolves. The only others he sees up here are the wildlife and the occasional mountain beasts like he.

A great hope has crossed my fear.

As though time were liquid and a great cataclysm had drawn them together en mass, wolves began to seep from the very core of the earth, spilling unto this small strip of land. Perhaps there was a greater power at work here, something beyond common comprehension. A male of ivory and stripes would join the trio, followed shortly by a child, no older than a scarce few months who was seemingly borne from the Earth itself. The inky damsel would prance, limbs lifting with delicate ease to make room for so many newcomers but she hardly seemed put off, if anything her smile softened along with her countenance. Golden oculars poured gentle emotions, an empathetic counterbalance to her bleak element. A walking contradiction... or perhaps it was merely the darkness's designation to claim a beacon of gentleness amidst the terrors that it usually embroiled.

“Apologies are unneeded, it's a pleasure to have your acquaintance, Laxton.” She inclined her skull, a delicate bow. Grace and empathy embodied the inky femme in spades. Her gaze followed Laxton's to the child and a soft sigh filtered through her lips, even as her countenance warmed and she slowly extended one inky wing to touch the babe if he would let her. “And hello to you too, little one. Have we startled you from slumber? What is your name?” Warm and soft, she lowered her frame slightly, making herself seem smaller as to not frighten the small child more than they already had. Laxton continued to speak and a warm laugh was drawn from Dahlia's chest.

“I hold no claim to any land, you have committed no sin where I am concerned.” Those pupiless eyes moved back to Laxton with a gentleness not becoming of many and yet her heart bled through each syllable, apparent and obvious within the entanglement of her fur and feathers.

The moment of peace was shattered by a low growl that rumbled the water and a soft, mild headache began in the back of her skull. Instinctively, she side-stepped, moving closer to the pup while her wings branched out, ready to defend him or get him to safety should violence transpire. Quickly though the aquatic wolf would settle as his eyes fell upon the babe. Apparently he was orphaned, or if he wasn't, his parents were nowhere found in present company. Her heart throbbed and quietly she settled, perching upon her haunches. She was in no place to adopt a pup but she wouldn't leave him to his own devices if he was devoid of guidance either.

“I am not native to these lands nor have I ever visited this great lake... if we've met, it's been in a dream or great vision.” Did she believe in such things? Perhaps. The world contained a plethora of magick that Dahlia would never understand. “At risk of repeating myself, my name is Dahlia, should these waters be claimed, I mean them no harm.” Gentle and soft, it was difficult not to believe her. There was something simply genuine about the winged shadow.
