golden treasures

Stories told of a great nest of large bugs that lived where the sunflowers reached up to touch the sky. It could prove to be dangerous should someone without the right knowledge come stomping through the forest of rather tall flowers. Theodore himself had never been here before but he'd heard enough stories to know to proceed with cautions. There were many tales and rumors about the place though the one that intrigued him the most was whisper of golden nectar produced from these pollinating creatures. It was that honey that drew the ice warrior forward.

Large paws stepped with ease the close he grew to the orchard, the sight of bright yellow petals high in the sky. Tan speckled nose twitched as nostrils flared, ever wary of what might be lurking just out of sight. He could handle himself in most situations that tended to come his way though it didn't mean he enjoyed the surprise of it. Those sorts of things were sure to be the cause of aging prematurely, he was certain of it though age was never something he worried about much truthfully. There were several things he would often bring up to joke about to lighten a situation. If it was at his own expense then so be it.

Pausing for a moment, he listened carefully for any signs of buzzing or other movements that would indicate he was not alone. There didn't appear to be anything and a sigh drew from his lips. Well, it would be easy enough to sneak his way in at least though without signs of the colony, he was not entirely sure how he would find it. Would the honey he was after hold the same sickly sweet scent that normal honey often did? He was not sure though he supposed it was something he would find out.

The land was large, and Maggi hadn't gone much further than the outskirts of the sunflower forest. Little enough to run under the massive yellow heads, she found that it was in her best interest to stay here, possibly make a den deep under the entanglements of roots underground. It wouldn't be the most fancy of homes, but... it would be nice to have a roof over her head again.

While she doesn't recall exactly how she got here - well, truthfully, she wasn't sure of anything anymore. Since her sudden arrival, floating balls of light hung within her vicinity... always. They even seemed to respond to her thoughts: dimming when she wanted to sleep, and casting more light when it was difficult to see. She wouldn't complain of her new companions, but it would be wonderful if they could talk back to her ramblings.

As Maggi wandered through the endless green stalks, her lights dimmed suddenly, and the snap of foliage made her tall ears twitch. With no more than a quiet hush, Maggi padded along her trails, following the new scent that accompanied the sounds.

...

When the priestess arrived, a large man with tusks as long as her legs could be seen slowly advancing forward. Maggi knew this area - she'd spotted massive insects buzzing about, and she never stuck around long enough to learn why. However, the other wolf seemed to know what he was after as he paused - and Maggi held her breath. He seemed to consider something for a moment, before moving forward.

Maggi went to follow, but faltered when she saw one of the insects above. Fear briefly clouded her judgement and her paw dropped, the snap of a twig seeming to echo in the previous silence. With a hiss, she dropped down and attempted to hide within the stalks, hoping he didn't see her.

Pushing forward, it became clear after a few moments that he was not alone. As wind blew through, scents were stirred and something foreign carried to him. He did not stop or turn to bring attention to them just yet however. They seemed intent on keeping their presence hidden for the most part. Why? He supposed it could be a trouble maker, hoping to catch him off guard and attack him for whatever reason. Or perhaps it was just an innocent bystander who was curious about what he was doing here. Regardless, he would wait it out and see. Even without facing toward where they might be, he was wary enough that he was confident enough he could fend for himself.

His pursuit carried him further in to the orchard, the scent of pollen thick in the air. As he moved, he was rewarded with the first glimpse of one of the large insects he was in search of. Eyes lit up as they landed on the thing, watching as it fluttered about for a few moments before choosing a direction to go. That way? If that was where the hive was then that was the way he would be going next. It would be easy to let the insects themselves lead him to the treasure.

However, his hidden company seemed to grow perturbed by the sight of it, allowing a twig to crack audibly underfoot and give themselves away more. The softest of sighs touched his lips but he would erase any trace of it as he shifted to turn so he could look behind him. Blue eyes swept across his field of vision, pausing at one area for a moment before allowing himself to look other places. "You can come out now. The bugs will not harm you unless you disturb them." It was why he was not worried just yet. Now what he would do if he actually managed to find the honey, that would be a problem.
