She woke early, she'd always loved the mornings, how the sun would filter through the trees, glistening rays piercing through the early morning mist. She would stretch from where she'd been curled, little body unraveling and untucking her paws where they'd been nestled under her own chest resulting in her being curled up into a tiny ball. She'd been dreaming, having dreams of her family, her parents and uncle and aunt, they'd been a big family. But when everything went to chaos and she was rushed away to safety she'd gotten lost — and that was how she ended up here. Not that she minded it, but home was where she'd prefer to be. Purple audits would flicker, drawing atop her crown as her soft amber hues falling upon Arios. Who was still asleep beside her, she watched the way her cream chest rose and fell for a few more minutes while she blinked the sleep from her eyes.

Rising from the floor of their den the girl danced out toward the opening, her small tree shifting upon her back with the rocking of her movements. Her tree was still very much recovering from the rot that had overtaken the bark, but she was beginning to feel better. Enough to draw herself from the den this morning.

A smile stretched over her little maw as she peered out at the lake before them, glancing back before trodding off following the edge of the water around a little ways sticking close to where the water met the land. Eyes fixed on the surface and how it glimmered under the cast of the sun, it was an incredible sight, and her tail waved back and forth happily as she watched, smiling up as a small song bird came to land upon one of her trees small branches. She felt the little shift in weight as it came to rest, but didn't mind the pressure. Flicking an ear as it soon took back to the skies when she rose to get a drink, front paws dipping into the cool water as she leaned down to lap up some of the fresh water.

"how can you find a heaven in this hell?"

Apollyon generally preferred higher planes of land, sticking to the cliffs and mountains, where he could easily take flight and rule over whatever stretch of Nidria fell beneath him. It was rare for him to frequent the aquatic districts of the continent, but something about the changing of the seasons seemed to have sparked a change within him, as well. The lake wasn't a bad place to be, either. It was generally quiet and calming, and prey was abundant this time of year. In the mountains, hunting was a little harder, so that was one of the positives of setting foot on lower ground. He wouldn't have to worry about going hungry (although he never really worried about that, anyway).

It was still early in the morning, so that meant he likely wouldn't run into any strangers. He wasn't worried about being outmatched, but he did prefer to avoid confrontation (unless it was with a mundane, in which case he would relish a good and bloody fight). He crept closer to the lake, listening to the soft bubbling of its waters. Around him, everything else was silent. There didn't seem to be a single creature around him, only the sound of the water and the wind whispering through the trees. He waded slowly into the shallow shores of the lake, feeling the cool water lap around his ankles, and he bowed his head to take a long, slow drink. The cold liquid was a welcome treat to his dry throat, and he savoured it, drinking for as long as he could.

A sound nearby caused him to lift his head, a slight shift in the water's current, too unnatural to be the wind. Droplets fell from his muzzle, and he ran his tongue over his lips to catch them. He tilted his nose up, scenting the air, and caught on to the very faint smell of another wolf nearby. Somehow, he'd missed the unknown presence, too caught up in quenching himself apparently. He frowned slightly, wondering if it was worth crossing paths with another, or if he should turn and depart from here as quickly and silently as he'd arrived. He returned to the dry shore and scented the air again. It didn't seem to be a mundane, which was almost disappointing, but whatever the source was, they were very small. They didn't have a large presence by any means. His interest was definitely piqued, and as he took a few steps in that direction, he entertained the thought that perhaps it was just a prey item, smelling only of wolf because it had been lucky enough to escape the jaws of one. That seemed quite unlikely, but he'd check it out on the off chance that he might find breakfast.

He pricked his ears as he neared closer, sniffing again, and now that he was within a more accurate range, he was able to confirm that it was indeed a wolf, and a young one at that. There was a flowery scent that clung to it, as if the small creature had been born from nature itself. He listened to the sound of the water being disturbed as the youngling drank from the lake, and at this point he was probably too close to get away unnoticed. However, this seemed to be a pup, and there weren't any other wolves in the immediate vicinity (though he could smell others, but he wasn't sure how fresh the scents were). He sighed, figuring it best to get this confrontation over with. He cleared his throat, walking closer until he was only a few feet away. "Are you lost, little one?"

She could...feel him, yes that was the right words, she could feel him before she saw him. Feel the vibrations that rumbled through the ground through the bottoms of her pads. She knew that the wolf upon her was larger than life one could say for a child of her youth and natural stature from her young age. But the child, though alone out here sitting by the waters edge watching the sun prick through the trees, wasn't afraid. She simply rotated her head from her focus on the water to gaze upon him as he strode closer, toes wiggling as her interest and excitement grew as she took in the heroic beast that loomed before her. Not only was he massive, but every fiber of his being claimed a regal heir, he was like a king, bathed in the purity of white light with a large set of wings upon his back. Drapes of red cloth cascading from his backside, and what fascinated the girl the most, was the gold mask that adorned his head. It was like a crown, that spiked up over his head as if the sun was shining over him.

"Are you lost, little one?"

At first she shook her head, only moments before realizing that that giant golden plate covered his eyes "Uh, wellll kinda of but nu uh - not really" she mumbled gently, her eyes still in awe at the hero that stood before her. "I got 'parated from my family, but the nice lady Arios is watchin me now — she's in a den, just....uh...over there" she didn't know how to explain exactly where the den was without showing him, but it was a good effort, hopefully he'd understand that Arios was nearby. Her mind began to wander quickly at that point, rising from her seated position to pad closer to him, she would try paw at the red cloth that hung off of his shoulders. A pause, before;

"Mister are you a king?" she pondered aloud, "Maybe a hero! Ya sure look heroic" she added with a curt nod of approval at her decision. "I've never seen anythin like you before" the girl would add, plopping herself back down by his large paw, not hesitating to press against him as she - impatiently waited for an answer before she thought of anymore questions to ask.

"how can you find a heaven in this hell?"

From the sound of this child's voice, tiny and fragile though it was, Apollyon got the sense that she wasn't afraid. On the one hand, he was almost disappointed, but on the other hand, he was impressed. His appearance and stature was known to be intimidating, and he had the ability to strike fear into the hearts of the meek simply by standing near them. This young girl, however, was not meek. His interest was piqued even further, and he found suddenly that he wasn't in a rush to leave. That was, until she mentioned the presence of another wolf. His body tensed, and the scent he'd picked up on earlier suddenly seemed much more prevalent (though he knew that was just his imagination). Arios, the stranger's name was. Not related to this wolf by blood, it seemed, as she was... separated from her family? He decided not to give that much thought, though he couldn't say he was unable to sympathize. She hadn't said her family was dead though.

He was ready to comment on the fact that this surrogate mother was so close, but it seemed the pup had more to say, and Apollyon was completely caught off guard. Are you a king? Maybe a hero! Despite himself, Apollyon couldn't help a low, rumbling laugh. "A king?" he echoed. "Not quite yet, I'm afraid, nor a hero. Perhaps one day, though," he mused. "And hopefully one day soon." He listened to the mud of the lake's bank squish slightly under her paws as she stepped closer. He was ready to take a step back -- though he didn't mind conversing, he wasn't fond of close contact -- but then she leaned all of her tiny weight against his massive leg. He stiffened, pulling his foreleg away on instinct, but then realising she might topple as a result. He replaced his paw quickly in an attempt to catch her in case she began to fall. He gave a weak, somewhat awkward huff of laughter in regards to her comment on his appearance. He supposed he probably did look different from many of the wolves she'd seen in her short life. Outlandish appearances weren't uncommon in Nidria, though it wasn't like he could vouch for that too much. Still, the mask was probably very unique, in such a way that mistaking him for a king was easy for a child to do.

"For as young as you are, little one, I would think there are many things you haven't seen before." He craned his neck down at her, even if he couldn't see her tiny form. At least the conversation felt more personal that way. "Still, if you have a guardian, why are you all alone out here without her?" he asked. "Bad people could be anywhere around here, waiting to snatch such a small child up." There was a darkness to his tone, perhaps just his affinity manifesting itself. He had no intention of hurting this child, of course, seeing no reason to harm a fellow magicka, and especially not one who could not defend itself. Still, it was true that others might not be so forgiving should they come across a lone child, and he knew that firsthand.

She smiled even brighter as the hearty laugh rumbled from his chest "A king?" he mimicked her words, and Sylvaine let a single ear drop slightly a bit awkwardly atop her crown as her oddly blended eyes stared up at him. "Not quite yet, I'm afraid, nor a hero. Perhaps one day, though," the girl grinned, "And hopefully one day soon." it was the promise that maybe he was meant to be one, or both of those things. And it made her youthful heart flutter with innocent joy at the idea. "well, I think you'll make a great king mister!" she exclaimed as she had moved to lean her weight against him. She felt him shift to raise his paw, but she had already been plopping her weight down upon him. She felt the weightlessness of her upper body, starting to roll downward for only a few seconds before the man quickly put his paw back down just in time to catch her. She glanced back up at him as she came into contact with his leg allowing herself to lean there as a small giggle emanated from her throat.

"For as young as you are, little one, I would think there are many things you haven't seen before." she smirked at the challenge as he craned his head down closer to her. "Oh yeah? well i've seen forests that glow — have you?" she smirked, confident that she may have seen something he hadn't, even though he was all grown up. "Still, if you have a guardian, why are you all alone out here without her?" "well —" she began to argue. "Bad people could be anywhere around here, waiting to snatch such a small child up." she felt the way his voice changed, purple audits falling against her skull. It became heavy of course back home there was never such a thing, they all lived in harmony and peace with one another.

She backed up slightly then, drawing herself from her place against his leg, defiance and denial welling up in the small girl "Nuh uh! Tha's not true!" she shouted, her little body growing rigid in her determination, ears remaining to stay flush against her crown as her eyes narrowed upon him.

Arios

4 y/o large Non-conforming Y
Arios's form began to shine and glimmer with the rising sun, her paws moving slightly as if attracted to the gentle rays seeping through the entrance of her den. Her long-lashed lids opened ever so slightly to greet the morning's light, a small smile caressing her youthful features she reached one paw out in hopes of cradling Sylv, aiming to pull the pup against her chest she found she was cradling not that of her pup, but of her satchel... Oh, gods no. Arios's den seemed to fill with a blinding light as if there was a sudden flash of lightning that made the woman shoot out from its eruption. Quickly scanning the nearby area she gave out a long breath of relief when she saw an unharmed Sylvaine. Though before her also stood a large man, akin to her in height save for a few inches though he toppled her in weight, well-pronounced muscles rippled under a royal mask where no eyes could be seen. Much like Arios, the wolf moved with grace in his step, though he also contained something Arios had never seen before on a wolf's body, wings. Arios hardly had the time to watch the exchange, her heart panging each moment as Sylv seemed to grow wary of the stranger she'd been leaning against, and as Arios came closer she caught onto the end of their conversation.

"Bad people could be anywhere around here, waiting to snatch such a small child up."

Oh please by the light bless her soul.

"Nuh uh! Tha's not true!"

Arios couldn't bear to stand on the sidelines any longer, coming forward she let her petals skitter into the air to announce her arrival, along with her very much relieved. "Sylvaine!" She called, rushing forward now she was quick to smother the child in her arms, pressing kisses all along the little ones head and even a few to her saplings growing branches. "Worried me sick." She chastized quickly, though it was hard to stay mad she couldn't help the look over worry over her features as she stuck her nose around the child's body to check for injuries. Once she had ensured that the child wasn't harmed in any way she leaned up with a soft huff, though she wasn't much more mad than she was relieved, a deep sigh echoing from her chest she looked back to the man, now having the time to admire the being up close did heat come to the woman's ears. Pulling the child further into her arms she looked to her for a small moment.

"Never, go outside when I can't watch you, your lucky it was this nice man that found you. And....Sadly sweetheart that is true, do you remember the man that wanted to cut the sores from your trunk?" She murmured as she groomed the girl's ears. Placing a kiss to her forehead before leaning up to see the stranger before her she gave a warm smile even if he could not see it. "Thank you mister...?" She asked, wondering what she could call this handsome fello. After all it was always nice to learn more names of so many different wolves. They were all quite different on this land.
