[P]  Finding Purpose

Lyra

2 y/o medium Female

How long had she been walking? Aimlessly, without drive or purpose….it felt like years. Ever since her mother’s death Lyra had been wandering, always on the move but never reaching a destination. Sleep rarely came to the dame, her mind too alert to the fact that she would be ill prepared to handle any danger that came upon her. Her body continued forward but her steps lagged with obvious exhaustion and her golden eyes kept disappearing behind drooping lids. She had little idea to where she was, towering sunflowers surrounding her on all sides, but was aware enough to appreciate the fact that the never-ending sunshine helped to keep her weary body awake. Strange and a little unsettling, yes, but appreciated none-the-less.

Her leg locked for a brief second, sending the ivory and midnight wolf stumbling before finding uneasy footing. Lyra knew her situation was dire when her own body decided to spite her. No true sleep for days truly was breaking her down, and for this reason she failed to notice the sounds growing around her. A quick shake of her head, shining halo of light crowning her skull giving a sparkle, and Lyra was once more continuing her aimless trek to…wherever she collapsed first, she supposed. Only a few steps forward and she halted, long ears standing at attention as the silken tresses of her neck rose in wary hostility. Fool she was to ignore the sounds surrounding her the first time around, but a repeat performance would not be attributed to exhaustion by the she-wolf.

Black bear !

HP: 225

Huffing, gruff noises assault the she-wolfs audits as the beast draws himself closer shouldering through the tall stocks of the sunflowers. Spring has only just arrive, the bears fresh from their dens are hungry - growing desperate for food after their long slumber. His nose twitches, breathing in the scent of another predator upon the grounds he seeks his first meal of the season. An anger begins to bubble within him, another huff and he's up on his hind legs before @Lyra large paw sweeping down in an attempt to strike her bluntly on her side or hip and throw her.

He'd been watching her, yes, for some time now actually. Witnessing the sickening sway of her exhausted body, the way her eyes gazed onward into nothingness as she pushed herself forward; and with every step she'd taken she walked further out of reality and into her own daydreams. Odin wasn't one to watch a stranger in such a manner, but her lethargic state had made her difficult to miss as he lay upon stones in the sun. She was remarkably patterned -- her pelt painted in ways that only Vincent van Gogh could appreciate, and in her did he find himself just as sucked into his own mind. Though not of her, no, that would be too cad of him, but of another. He drempt, longed even, for the tenderness of feathers unfolding from pale flesh, gently laying against his heated frame under a moonlit sky. Her golden eyes turning to bat at him, cold nose pressing to his muzzle and maybe, just maybe she'd say "I love you, O--," Snapping quickly from his thoughts, a black-pelted beast traveled into his view. It huffed, letting out rough noises that were hard to ignore, and as much as he would of loved to fall back into his brain, the she-wolf below him didn't have a choice on the matter.

Surging from his spot, the male snarled, calling to his spear to dissemble in attempts to reflect the blow of the bear as he aimed to knock the large animal off balance. "H-Hey! The name's Odin!" He laughed back at the woman with a short smile, turning back to aim yet another jab at the bear, but this time with his spear itself. What an introduction. @Lyra @Arcana

Of all the trouble she had planned for, a hulking black bear was near the bottom of her list. Her limbs locked in fear as she watched the beast rear up before attempting to bat her with a massive, clawed paw. A relived breath whooshed from her jaws as the descending paw missed her, and Lyra was quick to shake off her shock and retreat back hastily. The bear had likely only missed out of a tiredness not unlike her own, the creature fresh from hibernation and still drowsy, but also like her it was likely rapidly becoming more focused from a surge of adrenaline. If that was not surprise enough, a blur of gray quickly filled her vision before falling still and revealing a hulking male. Well then, at this point Lyra simply could not find any more energy to funnel into her shock. Instead, she accepted the fact that within a span of minutes she had almost been batted into next week by a massive bear and was now in alliance with an equally towering wolf wielding a spear.

The tri-spiked halo that framed her ivory face gave a surge of radiant light that was answered in turn by a golden glow surrounding the crown of the unknown warrior. Her bonded, her kindred in her time of need, her bond had activated as she subconsciously recognized the male as an ally and her greatest chance at escaping this encounter in one piece and not as bear chow. Hopefully the bond would grant him a rather large increase in ability due to circumstance, though it was always a guessing game how much strength her kindred bond would grant to a stranger. Her ivory audits caught his words and with an answering laugh, tinged with a hint of bewilderment, the she-wolf responded in a voice that echoed by three, “I’m Lyra, thanks for the save! I’d hate to end up bear food on such a sunny day.”

As far as Lyra was concerned, and probably the bear as well, introductions were over and there was little time for much else at the moment. A snarl that rang with voices more than just her own ripped from the small female and with it a pair of small, transparent ivory wings unfurled from her shoulder blades. Hoping there might still be time to capitalize on the bear’s stumble, Lyra lunged forward and aimed to rake her fangs down the beast’s face. Even during her attack Lyra was fully aware of not only her positioning, but Odin and the bear’s as well. Should the hulking beast aim to attack either of them Lyra would have her barriers ready to try and lessen the impact.

Black bear !

HP: 150

The large beast stumbles, falling back down onto all fours as he misses his strike upon Lyra just as Odin comes in hitting the bear hard with his deflection, the beast backs away trembling from the blunt and powerful hit amplified by the passives of the two wolves another jab from Odins spear upon hitting the creature square on its face. It rumbles a load roar in return lifting a leg to paw at his face the deep cut stinging upon his muzzle. During this time Lyra is able to lunge herself forward while he's distracted sinking her teeth into an already wounded muzzle the creature bellows another roar swiping a large paw for Lyra in response to the pain of her bite he strikes the woman across her chest, claws grazing into her flesh before he surges forward at the pair with a loud huff, jaws gaping reaching with those powerful jaws for any flesh he might be able to get a hold of.

The male had never been one to doubt his actions and capabilities, he was steadfast, some might even say hardy (save for Fallyn), but even the goddess herself would have been impressed by the series of events that had just unfolded. As if his aim hadn't been spot on enough, the surge of energy that swam through his veins sent him railing upon the ebony-hued creature, his strike falling true and landing squarely where he'd swung it. Even he took a moment to appreciate himself, a quick chuckle spilling from the sides of his muzzle that was short lived before the bear came wailing back down at the female he had intentions on defending. This certainly wasn't how he'd pictured his day going, but it was exciting nevertheless.

He watched as claws slashed at the she-wolf, his teeth bared in a loud snarl only to let a snarky remark fall from his lips as she spoke to him. He'd chuckle, flexing his left shoulder a bit as he readied himself for another attack on the monster. "Oh? Did you want to be bear food on a rainy day, instead?" It sure as hell would be a rainy day if they kept on like this. He could never say no to helping someone in need -- mainly a woman -- but he needed to help himself first. Rearing up, Odin aimed to use Runic Leech, bringing his spear forward and out into the bear's chest before ending that attack and starting yet another. He might have been goofy, but he knew this animal would take a lot of hits to bring down. He spun around to the side of the beast, aiming yet another hit with his spear to its backside in attempts to get it to look at him instead of the woman he now knew as Lyra. "Come on! Over here you wanker!" Odin spat, aiming to ram into it in one last hit. He looked over at Lyra, almost as if he knew she'd been the reason he'd hit the thing harder. If they were to do this, it would be together, even if she was simply cheering him on from the sidelines. @Lyra @Arcana

1st attack - Attempting to use Runic Leech with his spear to gain health, hitting the bear in the chest.
2nd attack - Attempting to hit the bear in the butt with his spear to get it to look at him.
3rd attack - Attempting another shove to topple the bear over.

Watching the powerful gray wolf attack the bear with his spear was marvelous, Lyra couldn’t take her eyes away. The heavy blows obviously threw the bear off balance and a shiver of giddy excitement raced up her spine as she realized that she was a part of this too. She may not be a typical fighter; she was no sword, her attempts to cause damage small and barely flinch worthy, but she was an excellent shield and seasoned warriors knew to appreciate the uses of both. She could take pride in knowing that while she may not do as much damage as Odin, she could amplify his already immense strength and give him every advantage she was capable of. She was about to respond to Odin’s snark when, with a bellow, the bear swung forth a massive paw and caught Lyra with sharp claws across her chest. The small dame was thrown back a few feet and winced in obvious pain before quickly shaking it off. She had experienced much worse; some scratches would not deter her.

Golden eyes watched as Odin made to attack the bear multiple times, attempting to draw its attention. Still winded, she sent an appreciative look towards the male before once more focusing on helping as much as she could. Her thoughts focused on protecting Odin from harm and her small ivory wings flared wider, followed by a second set of larger midnight blue wings unfurling to splay from behind them. Lyra was bonded to Odin for the remainder of this fight and thus he would remain strengthened by her kindred bond; now, she was readying luminescent golden barriers to protect any incoming damage to him. She hoped they would remain strong and hold off the clearly enraged beast, but to help with that particular problem she focused on exhausting the creature. With any luck a murky blue glow would begin to emit from the bear, signaling it’s weakened state and the additional buffs attacking it would grant to her bonded. Not wanting to draw attention back to herself Lyra quickly and shortly voiced, “if it’s blue it’s weakened, you’ll feel energized if you hit it then.” Lyra hoped it would be enough, that even if she wasn’t physically attacking her influence would still help to invigorate her ally while wearying her enemy. @Odin@Arcana

Buff – Odin is still kindred bonded and thus strengthened.
Shield – Lyra is using barrier to shield Odin from incoming damage, not herself.
Debuff – Lyra is attempting to use exhaustion to weaken the bear, if Odin’s hits land while it is exhausted he will feel invigorated.

Black bear !

HP: 65

Dazed, injured, lost, the bear lets out a harrowing cry as his attacks seem to do nothing to the two wolves before him. He is hit heavily in the chest with Odin's spear, the life draining from him and leaping into the brute as yet another swing of the mohawked beasts spear comes flailing around to his backside. The black bear stumbles forward, perplexed with how he'd gone from the top to suddenly being rammed onto the dirt. All while, a bright flash splinters the bear's visions as Lyra's shield backfires onto herself.  In an attempt to save himself from hits to the stomach, he swings wildly once more, claws stretched out in panic.

The fight against the weakening creature had gone on for far too long -- as Odin wasn't one to poke and pester any living thing other than Fallyn -- he knew this battle would have to be ended quickly. The woman that fought alongside him was interesting, to say the least, her abilities were unlike his own and he'd certainly be speaking to Anaru about her in the upcoming future. She might not have been the heavy hitter he was, but her moxie and spirit thrived, boosting his own ever-lifted enthusiasm to limits he thought to be unbreakable. The animal that lay before them had undoubtedly been feeling their happy wrath, even as it threw its paws wildly Odin could tell it was close to losing this war. He watched as it swayed from side-to-side, tossing its head back to let a fading shout bleed out into the skies, almost as if it were calling for backup. As much as Odin enjoyed a good tussle, he had a pretty young lady waiting for him back home, and he knew she wouldn't agree with him fighting one bear, let alone two. "Well, Miss Lyra... Let's get this over with." Smirk adorning his brutish features, the male winded back his body, thrusting forward at half-speed in attempts to come crashing down on the smaller figure in order to pin it in place. Then, in a sweep of his right paw would he try to slice open the bear’s throat before aiming his muzzle directly onto its left eye.   @Lyra @Arcana

1st attack - Attempting to throw his weight and himself on top of the bear as it's on its back.
2nd attack - Juggernaut activated. Attempting to rake his claws up the throat of the bear.
3rd attack - Attempting to wrap his jaws around the bear's right eye and thrash.

Lyra had bonded with few in her short life, mainly her mother and a few of her stronger pack mates. None of them could compare to the strength wielded by Odin and his spear. It felt like it had only been moments and already the mighty bear was fading, life flowing out from the many wounds inflicted upon it by the towering warrior. And here Lyra was, exhausted and bruised but still a part of the battle and able to offer her bond to strengthen Odin further.

She was disappointed to find that her exhaustion had not affected the bear and further dismayed when her golden shields backfired in a glittering spark, small shards of luminescent light nicking her features. It would have been an incredible streak of luck had every ability landed true, so for one or two to fail was to be expected…but still rotten. Lyra was brought away from her dissatisfied musings by Odin speaking, his sentiments easily agreed upon with a quick nod and murmur of, “lead the way”.

There was no longer any need to weaken the poor black bear and with that thought the midnight wings disappeared in wisps from her spine. Her focus would instead be narrowed to keeping Odin safe, the large male going into close combat with the bear. She decided to remain at a distance, knowing that her use was not in combat itself but in empowering those who fought with her. It would do little else but cause trouble if she managed to be mauled by the bear when it was so close to ending. Golden barriers once more lit up and Lyra prepared to attempt to shield any last injuries the bear would try to inflict before death. @Odin @Arcana

Buff – Odin is still kindred bonded and thus strengthened.
Shield – Lyra is using barrier to shield Odin from incoming damage, not herself.
