He stood there in a home that was not quite home anymore. His family had once again been lost out form under him. Was it because he wasn't there? Was it because of the other half of the relationship? He wonder what had happened since he'd taken his leave from the chaos. Did Odin really think leaving like he had a good idea? He hadn't even said where he was going or goodbye.  He just left. His heart slipped into his stomach and he thought about Anaru. She and him had been a thing since he could remember, in fact the why he remembered it was full of jealousy that Odin caught her eye first. Now that didn't seem to matter though, He'd only been jealous because of what position she held not because of his feelings for her.

He sighed and stepped into the dawn, his eyes catching the first rays of light over the cliffs. He took a whiff of the air around him, his eyes turning a shade of grey and his ears flopping down lifeless. He could smell a new scent around the territory, Anaru still hadn't returned from her search for his brother. The idea that she hadn't asked for his help still daunted him but most people who were in her stages of grief weren't thinking clearly anyway. Besides, His trail lead far from this place, past any place his nose could follow. Past any place his heart would let him follow, not with his brother's little ones so close to coming. He felt so hopeless, how would he be able to call himself their uncle when he couldn't even keep their father from leaving? Didn't even get the chance. Coming back from his scenting, he noticed the slight tears rolling over his snout. Shaking his head he moved out of his den and into the day. He would bring home food today, he would feed his pack mates even if his second half wasn't there to help.

"Fallyn?" Venemtress called softly from behind him.

She had come across his musky scent a few minutes earlier and had given humble pursuit. Her bitterness toward him from their last encounter had faded to nothing. Whisked away like the wind. Her feelings were still unsettled over the passed few moons because of his brother, and their new rise had replaced the shallow irritation toward the male who stood ahead of her. She should have sought him sooner, she realized looking at his hunched shoulders. Her ears drooped sorrowfully. She could not see his tears, but the way he held his posture told her he was mourning too.

It would be nice to ask him if he was okay. It would be polite to tell him she would be there for him.

But she was beyond words.

She knew Fallyn almost as well as Odin- or she thought she did... Thoughts hesitated, considering maybe she did not know either of them. Or anyone, for that matter. And despite being home in a land full of potential and life, Venemtress suddenly felt lonely. She had no family left. Now that Odin was gone, Fallyn was her closest friend. The one who knew her best. The only one she might be able to turn to.

Without words she did come to him. Tentatively, she moved to gently brush against him and nuzzle his shoulder comfortingly, wanting the closeness if he would let her. Whether it was to distract from her own pain or ease his she did not know.

He scented her before the voice rang out, even then it still caught him off guard. She of all people was not who he was expecting to see. Not after everything he said to her and then  disappearing without saying anything to her. His eyes wouldn't.. No couldn't look at her at first, his heart beginning to beat even harder in his chest at the idea of how she must be feeling. He could hear the strain in the way she called his name. In the way she stood there silent as a timber. He wondered what the new next in command wanted from him, his face turning into stone and trying to keep everything under control.

As he turned to look at the green fur he knew from his past, she embraced him. The sudden touch sending him into a sense of awe. She would embrace him even after this time, this hurt he caused her? His body shivered at the gentleness of the female, this was not something he was used to. It took him a minute, his mind wondering if it was alright to give into the embrace and to wrap himself around her in the same way. Wondering if comfort from him would be enough to soothe the gentle heart behind the thorny exterior. He did though, his chest heaving with a soft cry and then setting his muzzle over her other shoulder. His neck curling gently around her own in as tight of an embrace as he could.

This small act of kindness leaving a scar upon his heart, a wound healed slowly but gently from such a long road of pain and sorrow and yet it seemed to open a new one. One that was torn the moment his brother left without even a goodbye. "He didn't even say good bye.." He wheezed out. His voice crackling under the pressure of the pain in his chest.

Wordlessly she stood next to him, running her head slowly against his shoulder. His smell reminded her of Odin, but without his brother around the smell was beginning to change. It was becoming more Fallyn. She breathed him in slowly as he turned and enveloped her shoulders in a tight embrace. Venemtress stood quietly. She suddenly became aware that she had not been held like this in quite some time. It was strange to realize, and she briefly felt conflicted and ashamed of herself. Embarassed that she liked the touch. Uncomfortable in the weakness it might represent. Yet at the same time, she could not will herself to part from Fallyn. She wanted those thoughts to go away. She only wanted to be together with him, and know that they were allowed to feel this sadness that ached within them. Perhaps only with each other could they express this mournfulness. To everyone else they could prove steadfast and sure... but not to each other. Not over this.

Fallyn's body quivered. The earthy woman moved closer, firmly pressing herself against him. Fallyn's voice came, but it was choked and crackled.

Ven's ears dropped against her head, which moved away from his shoulder and turned to stare off into the trees. She could feel her eyes brimming and did not want Fallyn to see. His hurt was probably worse. He probably knew Odin better. Ven's crimson eyes blinked.

She could be strong for him.

"No. He didn't." she acknowledged. Her voice was still subdued, but there was a flatness to the tone; a hint of anger. Her feelings toward Odin had begun to churn and change. The feelings that had once flipped and flopped like fish out of water now formed into something darker, more shark-like. The barest hint of angular fin beginning to breech the surface of emotional waves that warned of something dangerous lurking beneath.

He felt it, the shift in her position. The anger that entered her voice when she responded to him, and the way she seemed to pull from him into her own world. He felt himself bristle instantly at the idea of being angry with his brother. He hadn't even been able to come back to him and apologize. Neither of them had gotten to do that. a small pot of water finally set in and began to boil. Maybe he never wanted to continue their friendship? He was after all not on speaking terms with his own brother. Slowly he lifted his head and tried to hold in his own temper.

"Why should we cry for those who betray us." He growled and stalked forward out of their embrace. It hadn't been anything she had done to cause his actions and that's what made him stop and turn to her with a sorrowful face. "I'm sorry love. I'm not one to share my wreck of a heart with others." He didn't know what else to say. He knew she would be angry with him again for his snappy decisions. Just like the last time they had spoke and he was alright with that. He had pushed everyone else out too right? Not like he wasn't used to being alone, even in a pack this size.

He turned his head forward and was going to go. He was ready to leave this heart break behind him but something in her face, the little tears welling up on her lids stopped him. He remembered the features of her ears and the eerie but sorrowful red eyes. They were so different then when he'd first met her as a little girl. His heart seemed to smack his brain and soon enough he found himself asking her to join him on his hunt. "Come kill with me?" His head slowly turned toward her and his eyes filled with doubt and the inability to be just himself.

Something shifted in Fallyn. She sensed it before he drew himself away. Curiously she eyed him and was surprised by the anger hinted behind the expression on his face. He spoke and seemed to acknowledge her own feelings. The bitterness she felt toward Odin was like a lump in her throat. She wanted to scream and growl to clear it out- but could not in front of Fallyn. The male turned to look at her and apologized. Ven flicked her ears. Why would he need to? She knew his feelings. They nearly matched her own even though they might have been for different reasons. She was about to tell him so when the striped wolf turned to leave, and began walking away from her- again.

At this Venemtress really did growl as a flash of anger burst forth. Why did he do this? Why did he continue to turn away from her? Walk away? Could they not have a genuine conversation without one of them exploding into a ball of fury?  His actions and these thoughts frustrated her.

"Fallyn..." she called after him. Her voice felt strangled; a mixture of a heated growl and lumpy sadness combining within her tightened throat. The short rise of anger fell just as easily as it had come, leaving only the pain behind. Slowly, her dark ears drooped and her shoulders hunched a little as she looked to her friend.

"Come kill with me?"

An invitation. Venemtress' ears perked. She studied his expression for a long moment, then said, "Of course..."  It had been such a long time since they had hunted together- just the two of them. The woman lifted herself and strode gracefully toward the blue tinted male. She turned her crimson eyes to him and said, "You lead."
